Lifejacket Exchange

Lifejacket Ownership / Exchange Program

Lifejackets are one of the most important pieces of safety equipment when it comes to surviving an accidental fall overboard. Even if you know how to swim, cold water, currents, waves and even panic can hinder your chances of self-rescue and survival.

As part of the Operation Life Preserver program, the Lifejacket Ownership / Exchange Program was established to bring lifejackets to Northern residents across Canada where lifejackets may not be as readily available and, when they are, can be very expensive. This program was designed to provide youth in northern communities with a properly sized lifejacket to use whenever they are out on a boat or playing near the water and on the ice during spring break-up. To keep the lifejackets being used by younger generations when older youth grow out of them, a Lifejacket Exchange program was developed to help facilitate the ‘recycling’ of lifejackets for the younger generation!
